Overview

Polentone, nestled in the heart of Bergamo at Piazza Mercato delle Scarpe, offers an authentic taste of Lombardian cuisine with a clear focus on polenta, the region’s signature dish. This humble yet vibrant restaurant transforms traditional ingredients into hearty, memorable meals that celebrate local flavors.

The star of the menu is undoubtedly the polenta dishes, crafted with elegance and depth. Whether you opt for the Wild Boar Sauce, Ragù di Capriolo, or the Mushroom Sauce, each plate delivers rich, robust flavors that capture the essence of the surrounding Alpine and countryside ingredients. Polenta here isn’t just a side—it’s the canvas for expertly prepared local meats, cheeses, and mushrooms that tell a story of Bergamo's culinary heritage.

The setting is intimate and inviting, located steps from the bustling town square, offering a laid-back atmosphere perfect for both quick lunches and relaxed dinners. Despite its modest size, Polentone impresses with fast, friendly service that makes every guest feel welcome and well-cared for. The staff’s genuine warmth and efficiency ensure your experience is smooth from start to finish.

For those seeking variety, the “Tris Di Polenta” stands out—combining ragù of capriolo, cinghiale, and porcini for a layered, complex tasting experience. Pairing your dish with local wines like Valmarina Rosso or a crisp Menabrea lager enhances the meal without overpowering the subtle, earthy notes of the polenta and accompaniments.

Polentone caters to both the curious tourist eager to sample Bergamo’s culinary staples and locals looking for a flavorful and satisfying meal. The generous portions and balanced seasoning ensure that even those initially skeptical of polenta’s charm will walk away converted, as noted by many satisfied visitors who praise the bold sauces and quality ingredients.

Whether you choose to sit under the overhang, enjoying views of the square, or take advantage of the convenient takeaway options, Polentone stands out as a beacon of tradition and taste. A visit here offers much more than food—it is a genuine experience of Lombardy’s heart, delivered with passion and authenticity.

Taragna polenta was amazing. Had tris with funghi porcini, sausage and pulled pork toppings all super tasty. It was expensive, but the portion is huge. Either way worth it.

I visited this place and ordered polenta – the taste was original and really interesting. The portion was very generous, so I couldn’t finish it all. The staff was polite and efficient, and the dish was served quickly.

Im not a polenta fan, I find it boring and pointless.. but this little kiosk brings some life back into the nothingness. Really nice sauces and plenty of choices. Great friendly service here. You grab a table under the overhang, order up your polenta of choice and enjoy the view. It's a little tucked away and looks part of the restaurant next door, and the seating mainly belongs to the Irish pub across the road, so make sure you're looking at the right menu. We had the wild boar and it was really good, and a beer, but the pulled pork looked great too.

The food is so good. It was August when we came but I can’t imagine how amazing this must be on a cold winter day. Service was so fast and friendly. But the food was simply something else. I wolfed down the Ragu of Wild Boar and was tempted to go back for another but I quickly realised that I was full. But my eyes, my nose and my tastebuds all wanted more. The food is faster than macdonalds, cheaper than macdonalds, and so much healthier. If I lived in Bergamo I’d eat this every day

Lovely place with local food. A very friendly lady works here who recommended the ragu and it was very delicious! The surrounding area is beautiful, which adds to the value for money you get. Beers are cheap as well.

The lady who is serving the food is very kind and helpful! We have food allergy and she showed us all the ingredients of the dishes in a notebook. The food is also very tasty.

Delicious polenta with mild taste, so the toppings really upgrade the dish. Local, fresh ingredients, good prices and fast service! The local salami was just delicious!
